The virtuous physician and medicine's crises
pp. 213-234
Abstract
I utilize the notion of virtuous physician, in the concluding chapter, to address the quality-of-care and professionalism crises, particularly through the integration of EBM and PCM to form virtuous holistic medicine. I also contrast this type of medicine to the unvirtuous fragmented medicine practiced by the unvirtuous physician and how such medicine exacerbates the crises. In a final section of the chapter, I discuss the implications of the notions of virtuous physician and virtuous holistic medicine for medical education and the medical humanities movement.
