A kinematic analysis of wheelchair propulsion
pp. 93-99
Abstract
For the individual who utilizes a wheelchair as his or her primary means of locomotion, "wheeling" can be regarded as the basic or prerequisite skill to most sports. Just as running has been frequently divided into its two component phases, (Dyson 1973) the skill of wheeling has similarly been divided into phases of drive and recovery (Byrnes 1983; Higgs 1984; Sanderson and Sommer 1985; Spooren 1981; Steadward 1978, 1979; Walsh 1986).
