Abstract
This part is not intended to be a review of experimentation testing Piaget's theory, which would be a mammoth undertaking, neither does it always give an up-to-the-minute report on the current state of the field. The aim is rather to present certain recent studies as exemplars of fundamental problems encountered in testing hypotheses about the acquisition of knowledge.
