pp. 29-42
Abstract
One of the major advances of the nineteenth century was the discovery of electricity. New inventions were soon connecting different parts of the world. Before the century ended, steamships and railroads had revolutionized transport. Crossing continents and oceans became much easier, leading Europeans to follow the routes of ancient and modern travelers, explorers, and scientists.
